“I AM THE LAW” AND “SHE HAI TO EAT” Painted against the stark background of a big city and replete with fresh dramatic turns which make it a great original amongst the more familiar types of anti-gangland films, Columbia’s “I Am the Law” will be concluded at the Regent Theatre tonight t with Edward G. Robinson convincingly starred as its dynamic fighting prosecutor. Jack Haley is seen with Rochelle Hudson in the Twentieth Century Fox comedy, “She Had to Eat,” on the same programme. Featured in the supporting cast are Arthur Treacher and Eugene Pallette. “Doctor Rhythm” and “Her Husband Lies” Bing Crosby is a policeman for a day in the new musical film, “Doctor Rhythm.” the main attraction to-mor-row at the Regent Theatre. His friend, a real policeman, is unfit for work after a school reunion (held in a menagerie), and so Crosby, taking his place, is assigned as bodyguard to a beautiful young heiress (Mary Carlisle). This proves to he quite a task for she is trying to elope with a gambler. The theme provides scope for numerous comic situations. Andy Devine, as the incapacitated policeman. and Beatrice Lillie lead the clowning, assisted by Rufe Davis and Laura Hope Crews. The many musical presentations include a song by Crosby, accompanied by a chorus of birds, and a gipsy ballet in which Miss Lillie assists Crosby. In the associate picture Gail Patrick plays the first straight dramatic leading role ot her career in Paramount’s “Her Husband Lies,” a dramatic story of a bigtime gambler who is forced to go back on his word in order to save his loved ones. Ricardo Cortez enacts the role of the husband, and the cast also includes Akim Tamiroff. Tom Brown, Louis Calhern and June Martel.
