REPRISAL FOR REFERENCE TO POPE
ACTION BY MAYOR OF CORK REFUSED TO WELCOME GERMANS LONDON, Feb. 24. The Lord Mayor of Cork, Mr. James Hickey, refused to welcome members of the crew of the German naval training ship Schiesien "because of the insult to the Catholic would by German Press references to the Pope as a political adventurer.”

Received Feb. 26, 8 p.m. LONDON, Feb, 26. Despite Lord Mayor Hickey’s atti tude a salvo of guns greeted the ar rival of the Schiesien at Cork har bour in response to her salute. Courtesy calls were exchanged.
