S.P.C.A. JUNIOR LEAGUE

Dear Girls and Boys. I hope you all had a very good holiday and are working hard at school once again. It seems such a long time since I last wrote to you.

When I was away in Auckland I was very lucky to be taken through the Blue Cross Hospital for animals. I have been wanting to tell you about it ever since.

There were cats and dogs in kennels with runs attached. Some of them were staying there while their masters and mistresses were away on holiday. They were fed and brushed and given exercise every day. Each cat and dog had a chain and a little round metal disc round its neck with a number on. Then again some of the animals were sick. Four had broken paws and the animal doctor had set their paws a-nd bandaged them. Another one had been very ill, but was getting better, and another had four wee puppies, dear little things. It’ was plain to see how much they loved the kind doctor who cared for them, they licked his hands and wagged their tails when he passed them. Of course it takes money to keep the place going besides the money people pay for leaving their pets there. You see there is a room full of bottles of medicine, ointments, iodine and chloroform, because the animals are put to sleep if they are in great pain. We can help to keep it going by getting more members and sending subscriptions to “Toby” Box 46, Wanganui. Shall we see how much we can get? We collected nearly £2 10s from June to December last year. Let us try and do better this year. Yours Sincerely, •■TOBY.”
