i Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, February 24, 3 p.m. General Situation. —An anti-cyclone still covers the Dominion with its centre over the North Island. Pressure is falling slowly in the South, however, under the influence of a depression advancing across the Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Winds: Rather variable north-east to north-west predominating and gradually freshening. Seas (N.Z. waters): Slight to moderate but rising again later in Cook Strait and the far South. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate but freshening northerly winds and moderate but rising seas. Weather: Fair to fine at first but cloud increasing and rain developing in western and south-western districts of the South Island and gradually becoming more widespread during to-morrow. Temperatures, mild to warm. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 11 hours 40 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Temperature: Maximum, 76deg. Fahr.; minimum, 45deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 7.13 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 5.56 a.m. Phases of the Moon for February Full Moon, February 4; Last Quarter, February 10; New Moon, February 19; First Quarter, February 26.
