AMATEUR ATHLETIC MEETING BIG DAY AND NIGHT ON COOK’S GARDENS Special lighting has been arranged for the West Coast (North Island) Amateur Athletic Centre’s championship meeting, which is to begin this afternoon on Cook’s Gardens and finish to-night. The actual lamps which are to be used permanently on the reserve when the new steel towers are in position, will be made use of to-night. The afternoon programme begins at 3 o'clock and that at night at 7.45. Competitors will be present from New Plymouth, Stratford, Hawera, Opunake, Levin, Foxton, Feilding, Marton. Palmerston North, and Wanganui. The meeting will provide competition among the greatest array of talent ever assembled on Cook's Gardens during the past 10 years. Over a period of year the officials of the Centre have perfected a system of control which cannot be bettered anywhere in the Dominion. If the weather holds a record attendance of the public is anticipated at the night meeting.
