BLAZE IN AUCKLAND

FLYING EMBERS CAUSE ALARM. WOODEN BUILDING GUTTED [ Per Pres. V.oclation.l AUCKLAND, Feb. 24. Flames which threw skywards great masses of smoke and burning embers destroyed a large two-storey wooden building owned by Browne Bros, and Geddes, Ltd., confectionery manufacturers, Newmarket, at daybreak. Although a portion of the framework was saved the building is regarded as an utter loss and will have fo be rebuilt. Brigades did good work in preventing the spread of the flames to the company's main store and manufacturing premises. The block destroyed was insured for £lOOO and the contents for £lBOO. both with Lloyd's Company. The loss over and above the insurances is estimated at £2OOO. Nearby residents for a time were concerned about the danger from falling embers, hut this was of brief duration.
