POOR TROUT FISHING
ANGLERS AT TAUPO
ADVERSE EFFECT OF WINDS [ Per Pres* Association.] TAUPO, Feb. 23. With the strong south and southwesterly winds blowing for the past | fortnight, fishing has been very diffl|cult. A few good fish have been | caught, but on the whole the sport has been very disappointing and very few anglers have remained. The Waikato River is very quiet, no catches being reported from any of its favourite spots. The Waitahanui has not been fished very much so far, mainly owing to the weather. Major Willoughby Tottenham, of Suva, using a Taupo tiger fly on the Waitahunui Stream, took three nico fish, the best of which weighed 71h Mrs. Willoughby Tottenham, with I Invicta fly, landed five fish, including lone of 51b. At the mouth of the Wai'lahanui, using Ewe wasp fly, Mr. J. Gordon Williams, of Orini, took 10 nice fish, his heaviest being 81b. Mr. A. A. MacDonald, of India, also at the mouth of the stream, took four fish on a Ewe wasp fly, including one of 81b. The wind to-day made the mouth of the stream absolutely impossible, except for a couple of hours this morning.
