WAIMARINO SHOW
FINAL ARRANGEMENTS SHOW DAY ON SATURDAY (Own Correspondent.) RAETIHI. Feb. 21. Mr. Albert Scarrow presided over a meeting of the committee of the Waimarino A.P.H. and I. Association held on Monday night. A decision was made to take out a pluvius insurance policy against rain for a cover of £lOO. In view of the inability of the Waimarino Band to attend, arrangements were finalised for the engagement of the Taihape Brass Band to provide band music. The secretary reported that nomination for the open standing, open underhand and local Waimarino chopping events had been satisfactory. There was every prospect that some thrilling axemen’s events would be
staged at the showgrounds on Saturday. Unfortunately, owing to insufficient entries being received, it has been necessary to cancel the New Zealand championship 14-inch chopping event. The following were elected as new members: —Messrs. M. Wiggins, K. Winks. E. Punch, Kopeke te Wiki, A. Laird. P. M. Forsyth. E. J. Turner. W. Brimmicombe. M. Williams. D. Blacks. IJ. Albert. J. Brierley and Mrs. H. Sommerville.
The secretary reported that available space was heavily booked for sideshows and trade exhibits. There will be plenty of entertainment in sideshow alley this year.
The following members of the Young Farmers’ Club were anpointed as associate stewards: J. Cranston (sheep). A. Hammond (shed'. N. Ranger (fat cattle). V. Whale (dairy cattle). F. Frederick (horses).
The president reported that the enclosing of the ring with chain mesh netting would be completed by Show Dav.
Arrangements were completed for a display dealing with the treatment of hydatid disease to be featured at the showgrounds. This display is sponsored by the Health Department and should be interesting and instructive to local farmers.
Tents are also to be erected for the use of the St. John Ambulance Corps and women and children.
Mr. A. Scarrow was appointed as the association's delegate on the local Centennial Memorial and Celebrations Committee.
A decision was made to lower the heights of horse jumps as under: — Pony leaping 3ft. 3in., ladies’ jump 3ft. 3in.. maiden jumps 3ft. 3in., open jump 3ft. 6in. Arrangements were finalised for the showgrounds to be ploughed, sown with grass and rolled immediately after Show’ Day.
Stock entries received show a distinct. improvement in sheep classes, although the cattle entries were poor. Numerous other matters of detail were dealt with, members agreeing that indications pointed to Saturday’s event being equally as brilliant —if not more brilliant—a spectacle than the Waimarino Show of last year and the year before.
