MAJESTIC THEATRE

“STABLEMATES” A new screen team is introduced in “Stablemates,” in which Wallace Beery and Mickey Rooney are costarred, which is to conclude today at the Majestic Theatre. Beery is seen in the role of a once brilliant veterinarian who changed to a race track hobo because he was framed into a murder charge. Rooney, fresh from his triumphs in “Boys’ Town,” wins more admirers, if possible, in his characterisation of the stable boy and jockey who befriends Beery in order to get the latter to operate on his injured horse. The two join forces and tour the country with the racehorse, which Rooney nas been given in lieu of his salary. “Adventures of Robin Hood.” Adventures, romance, comedy and drama are all combined in Warner Brothers’ outstanding production “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” which is to commence a season at the Majestic Theatre to-morrow. Many will remember the silent version with Douglas Fairbanks, senr., in the title role. As Robin Hood in the present film, Errol Flynn proves himself a worthy successor to Fairbanks, while the film itself compares more than favourably with its predecessor. It has the advantage of being in natural technicolour, so that the beauty of the forests and countryside can be all the more appreciated The story, familiar to all, has its setting in the reign of Richard the Lion-Heart, when he was absent on one of the crusades. Under the guiding hand of Prince John and the villainous Sir Guv of Gisborne, the barons oppress and tax the Saxon citizenry, until r. ~..,1.: or men. under the leadership of Robin Hood, sets out io take frorich and give to the poor. Basil

Rathbone is splendid as Sir Guy, while others in the outstanding supporting cast are Olivia de Havilland,

Ciaud Rains, Eugene Pallette, Herbert Mundin and lan Hunter. There will be an enjoyable associate programme.
