MEMORIAL DEDICATED
LATE REV. C. F. PIERCE FORMER HEADMASTER OF COLLEGIATE SCHOOL In the presence nf a large congregation, many of those present being old boys, a former Bishop of Wellington, the Rt. Rev. T. H. Sprott, dedicated a tablet in the Wanganui Collegiate School Chapel last night to the memory of the late Rev. C. F. Pierce, formerly headmaster of the school. It was an impressive service and Bishop Sprott paid an eloquent tribute to the work and influence upon the school of the late headmaster. “He
THE LATE REV. C. F. PIERCE was a man of high ideals,” he said, “and the school advanced under his guidance.” The speaker said he could speak of him as a friend, and from many personal contacts. The assisting clergy were: Archdeacon J. R. Young, Rev. H. W. Austin and Rev. Nigel Williams. Mrs. Pierce was present and made the request for dedication of the tablet. The school choir assisted in the appropriate service. Bishop Sprott apologised for the inability of the Rt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland to perform the dedication. Bishop Holland was prevented from being present because of illness, he said. The Rev. Pierce was headmaster at the school from 1922 to 1931, and on his retirement lived in England. He died two years ago. Mrs. Pierce came specially to New Zealand to attend the dedication ceremony.
