There have been no further developments arising from the police inquiries into the death of Gordon Robert McKay, Australian hides and skin merchant, of Sydney, whoje remains were recovered from the ruins of a Piha bach that was burned to the ground early in the morning of Sunday, February 12. It is understood that the authorities have determined that McKay's known life insurance policies totalled £50,000, which was made up of three policies—one for £25,000, a second for £15,000, and a third for £lO,OOO. The dead man was known to have paid at least one previous business visit to New Zealand and it is said that those with whom he became acquainted regarded him as the possessor of an engaging personality and marked business acumen.
