STRONGER GARRISON THE REACTION IN ROME ADEQUATE MILITARY PRECAUTIONS [By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright] (Independent Cable Service.) ROME, Feb. 20. The reinforcement of the French garrison in Somaliland is regarded in official circles as “worsening an already dangerous situation.” It is strongly indicated that Italy will take "adequate precautionary military measures.”
NO BREACH OF AGREEMENT
ITALIAN TROOPS FOR LIBYA STATEMENT IN COMMONS Received Feb. 21, 6.30 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 20. The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. R. A. Butler, said that Italy had intimated her intention of sending 30,000 troops to ensure the security of Libya. It was not regarded as a breach of the Anglo-Italian agreement but it was admitted it would restore the garrison to its strength before that agreement was signed.
EGYPTIAN COASTAL DEFENCE
Received Feb. 21, 10.50 p.m. CAIRO, Feb. 21. The Government is creating a coastal defence fleet at a cost of £13,000,000 consisting of six minesweepers f and two sloops, providing local employment and ensuring a modern graving yard.
ESPIONAGE CHARGES
ITALIANS ARRESTED IN TUNIS Received Feb. 21, 11.53 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 21. The Times’ Paris representative states that it is reported from Tunis that 16 Italians, including the head of the immigration department of the Italian Consulate, have been arrested and charged with espionage.
