CHRYSLER-PLYMOUTH 1939 MODELS

MANY NEW FEATURES EMBODIED The 1939 Chrysler-Plymouth models, just introduced to New Zealand, are now built in the Canadian factory of the Chrysler Corporation at Windsor, Ontario. These cars, because of their Canadian origin, now qualify for low British preferential duty which enables large reductions in the prices of all models. The new Chrysler-Plymouths for 1939 have many new features and improvements. All the wheelbases are 114 in., two inches larger than last year’s models. The appearance of the cars has been completely changed. All models are completely equipped with features of higher priced cars—engineering features that increase performance ana ensure more luxurious and more comfortable riding. A very noticeable improvement is the new aero-dynamic styling with an imposing front end. A new split “V” type windshield, not only reduces wind resistance, but contributes to the appearance of ultra-modernism. Bumpers are new, sturdier, more impressive. Luggage capacity of the trunks is larger. No detail has been neglected in the complete restyling of the body designs. All models have new pantograph type coil-springs, giving independent suspension to each front wheel. All models have the synchromesh transmission, which automatically synchronises gear meshing, making it positive, silent and instantaneous.

The engine, with its time-tested features, has been improved to provide new pulling power. The new high-rigidity chassis frame has almost twice the distortion resistance of frames used last year, together with the new coiled front springs and new steering, which makes for more even riding and complete driving control. Other improvements are: New outrigger body mountings; improvement of the fuel-pump to prevent vapourlock, thus assuring easy quick starts under practically all conditions. In addition to the many improvements, Plymouth still retains important engineering features such as: Equal pressure hydraulic brakes, full pressure engine lubrication, floating power engine mountings, double-drop frame, four-ring pistons, four-bearing crankshaft, silent “U” spring shackles, airwheel tyres, roller-bearing universal joints, chain-driven camshaft, ventilated clutch, air-cooled generator, tapered leaf springs, safetystyling, airplane type shock-absorb-ers.

The body interiors are completely new with new instrument panels, new interior hardware and new upholstery of genuine first-grade hand-buffed leather safety-tyling is embodied.
