ANM AL MEETING OF MARTON DIVISION'S (Own Corresponded) MARTON, Feb. 20. The annual meeting of the Marton (Divisions of St. John Ambulance was held in St. Andrew’s Hall, Marlon, on [Monday evening. There was a good attendance of members of the men's division and nurses' division. Mr. A. Way (president), the patron (Mr. F. Purnell) who presided. A very comprehensive report was road by Hon. Sergeant R. G. Witney [(secretary) which dealt with all the activities of the divisions for the past year. Iho balance-sheet showed a very flourishing state of affairs, the chief items of revenue being donations £24 Bs, and street day appeal £22 4s 7d. On fthe expenditure side £27 4s 3d was spent on stores and uniforms, etc., and ,lne season finished with a credit of [l6O 13s 4d In proposing the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr. A. Way congratulated the divisions on the wonderful progress that they had made since their inception six years ago. They now had 20 uniformed members, and five more to he set up. [The nurses’ division had 12 nurses and 11. cadets. The services of the division were being availed of by alt sports bodies and racing clubs in the Rangitikei district, and it was one of the best organisations in the districtcompetent and efficient in all departments. Mr. Purnell, in seconding the pro. position, stated that Marton was proud [of their St. John Ambulance. They had a serious duty to perform which (they carried out in a manner that gave satisfaction to the general public and headquarters, whose officers spoke in glowing terms of the services rendered by the executive [officers and members. [ The motion was carried by accla.mat ion. Election of Officers The following officers were elected: .Patron, Mr. F. Purnell; president, Mr. 'A. Way; vice-presidents, Messrs. E. B. Gordon, M.P.. Ormond Wilson, G. B. Gregory, J. B. S. Dudding, A. H. Marshal), W. B. Langston, E. C. Haddock. T. E. Barton. F. H. Dexter, W. G. Aitken, W. H. Davies, and Rev. W. Raine; divisional secretary, Hon. Sergeant R. G. Witney; treasurer, Corp. |J. Duncan; executive committee, iSupt. R. H. Turnbull; Divisional Sec- ' retary. R. S. 4Vitney; Ambulance .Officer, W. J. Webb, Sergts. F, Lawson and L. Davies, Corporals J. Dun'can, E. O. Jones and Privates R. I Lewis, W. D. McEwan (duty officer), ■and Ralph Parkinson. [ Superintendent R. H. Turnhull gave an interesting resume of the work for the year as follows: —Parades 26. 'strength of division 25, cases attended 'on public duty 50, attended privately [66, members fitted with full uniform 120. total number of public duties per- | formed by members for year 1.38, total number of drills attended for ivear 400. average attendance 16.22 [(this is the second best for the district). The superintendent also stated 'that it was hoped to acquire a meet- ■ ing hall and ambulance for the division in the near future. Appreciation of services rendered by the executive officers, and Mrs. Raine was expressed by hearty votes of thanks by acclamation. Also to the district officer (Mr. R. R. Wakely) and Mr. Gullery (secretary to the association, Wanganui) for the interest that they had taken in the work of the Marton Division. A hearty vote of thanks to the chairman terminated a very enthusiastic meeting, after which refreshments were dispensed by the nurses’ division and the ladies' auxiliary.
