Mrs. Widdowson left Wanganui on Saturday with her husband, Dr. H. L. Widdowson, who is to attend the medical conference in Christchurch. According to an overseas exchange Miss Elaine Hamill, the New Zealand actress, whose parents formerly resided in Taihape, is now doing television work in London. Miss Gibbons, of “Hikuiangi,’’ accompanied by Mr. Hope Gibbons, win leave on Wednesday for Auckland to attend the 95th birthday gathering of her aunt, Mrs. Phillip Mcßae. News has been received of the death at Brussels, Belgium, last week, of Miss Jessie Knapp, a wellknown teacher, at one time a member of the staff of the Wanganui Girls’ College. A very capable member of the teaching profession, Miss Knapp also taught at a school u. Palmerston North and the Gisborne High School, retiring in 1923. Afle. her retirement Miss Knapp went abroad and travelled extensively in Europe. She was a member of a well-known family in Nelson. ENGAGEMENT. Wellington—Shute.—The engagement is announced between Stella Audrey, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Shute, of Auckland, and George William, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Wellington, of Stratford.
