SHOP AND DWELLING DESTROYED
FIRE AT CASTLECLJFF THREE OCCT PANTS ESI APE IN NIGHT ATTIRE Fanned by a strong wind off the .sea, fire early on Sunday morning, destroyed a shop and dwelling owner; and occupied by Mr. P. Baylis, Rangiora Street, Castlecliff. The alarm was given at 2.55 a.m by one of the occupants, a Mr. Lunn who managed to get two children out without their suffering injury. At the time these three were the only persons in the building. Two machines, one from the city and the other from the Castlecliff depot, attempted to quel! the outbreak, but the flames had a strong hold before the brigade could reach the scene, and the building was completely gutted. The occupants suffered a complete loss, escaping m their night attire. The insurance on the building was £5OO and that on the furniture £350, both policies being in the Sun Fire Insurance Co.
