Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, February 17, 3 p.m. An anti-cyclone is still centred to north while a rather deep depression covers the south-west Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Winds: Variable at first in the far north, otherwise moderate to strong north-west to northerly prevailing. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough to rough about Cook Strait and in the far south and rising generally south of Cape Egmont, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate but increasing northerly Io north-westerly winds and moderate but rising seas. Weather: Mainly fair to fine at first but rain in the far south-west and south and gradually extending north-ward over western districts. Temperatures rising. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 9 hours 50 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Temperatures: Maximum, 74deg. Fahr.; minimum, 46 deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 7.23 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 5.48 a.m. Phases of the Moon for February:—Full Moon, February 4; Last Quarter, February 10; New Moon, February 19; First Quarter, February 26.
