WORLD RECORD SWIM

Miss Doris Storey, ol Leeds, the British Empire breaststroke champion, more than fulfilled expectations in December, when she set up a new world’s breaststroke record for 20C

yards. She had arranged to make an attack on her own British record of 2.46 1-5 in the 25 yards salt water bath at Wallasey, and her time was 2.42 2-5, well inside her own record, and just beat the world record of 2.42 3-5 held by the German, Miss H. Holzner. Nineteen years, of age, sturdy and dour, Miss Storey has improved steadily since sue was placed sixth in the Olympic breaststroke final at Berlin in 1936 until to-day the Yorkshire girl is Britain’s brightest hope for the 1940 Olympic Games in Finland.
