A BUDGET SURPLUS
POSSIBILITY REVEALED [ Per Press Association. | AUCKLAND, Feb. 16. The possibility of a slight surplus in the Budget was revealed to-day by the Minister of Finance, Hon. W. Nash. The Minister said the income tax was expected to produce a little less thaji the Budget estimate of £9,500,000, but the revenue from Customs duty, sales tax and beer duty was likely to exceed the estimates. Mr. Nash said that he did not consider the effects of the import control system would be apparent to any considerable extent in the current quarter. They would, however, operate
throughout the coming financial year. The Minister forecast an earlier Budget than usual this year, probably about mid-July. Parliament was ex- ■ pected to assemble in June,
