Sir Julien Cahn’s Team At Hamilton WAIKATO’S GOOD FIGHT DEMPSTER’S SOUND SCORE (Par Press Association.] HAMILTON, Feb. 16. Sir Julien Cahn’s cricketers had to fight for every run when they defeated Waikato, holders of the Hawke Cup, at Seddon Park to-day. When the match was resumed Waikato had nine down for I'2B and Hampton, the last man, was run out with the score at 131. The wicket, and outfield were perfect and there was brilliant sunshine, though with a strong cross wind. Dyson look 25 minutes to score a single, and when he was 11 he was weH caught at first: slip. Dempster and Heane played correct cricket and the lunch score was 63 for one wicket. Dempster was having trouble with a thumb which was injur’d aL Wellington but hn produced some splendid off shots and well placed strokes to the on side. He hit one six and three fours. Hardstaff never settled down but. Oldfield d.splayed fine wristy shots. The bowling of Clough and Everest was very steady. Loose balls were few and far between and the fielding was also much better than previously. The visiting tailenders played sound cricket and considerably improved the position, and the score at. stumps was 304 for eight.
