THE LATE MR. HALDANE
HIS SCHOLASTIC CAREER Mr. G. R. Haldane, of the teaching staff of the Wanganui Technical College, whose death occurred at New Plymouth on Wednesday, was 35 years of age. He was educated at Nelson College and Otago University College, where he graduated B.Com. From 1923 until 1928 he was commercial teacher at the Napier Boys’ High School, and from 1928 until 1930 taught at the Hastings High School In 1930, Mr. Haldane accepted an appointment on the staff of the Wanganui Technical College. Mr. Haldane gained his M.Com. degree while in Wanganui and wrote a brilliant thesis on the tobacco industry in New Zealand. He held the rank of major in the Wellington-West Coast Regiment. His wife was formerly Miss J. Hyde, a former member of the teaching staff of the college. At the college assembly yesterday, Mr. I. E. Newton, the principal, made feeling reference to the death of Mr. Haldane, stating that the college had lost, an able teacher and friend. As a mark of respect the flag was flown at half-mast at the college. The funeral takes place at Wanganui to-day.
