Mr. Beaumont Smith, Sydney. Is a visitor to Wanganui and is staying at the Rutland Hotel. Mr. W. E. Broderick, chairman of the Wanganui Hospital Board, is visiting Wellington on business relating to the Social Security Act. At the monthly meeting o£ the Free Ambulance Committee last night, feeling reference was made by the chairman, Mr. Hope Gibbons, to the death of Mr. W. Johnstone. Dr. Douglas W. Guthrie, eldest son ot Mr. and Mrs. H. Douglas Guthrie, Lower Hutt, has gained the degree of F.R.C.S., London, according to cabled advice received on Wednesday. Engineer Rear-Admiral E. D. Sydenham, Westport, returned to Wellington by the Wanganella on Wednesday from a trip to Australia. He was accompanied by Mrs. Sydenham. Mr. H. Shugg, Melbourne, who is to act as adjudicator at the New Zealand Brass Bands Association's championship contest in Christchurch next week, was a visitor to Wellington on Wednesday. Mr. A. Briscoe Moore and Mr. V. Simms are to represent the Auckland Provincial District of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union at the big rally of farmers at Makirikiri next Tuesday. Squadron Leader L. Jarman, R.A.F., arrived at Wellington by the Wanganella on Wednesday. He will visit his parents in Christchurch, and intends to remain in New Zealand (or some months. Dr. A. D. Nelson, formerly medical superintendent of the Wanganui Hospital and now medical superintendent at Christchurch, has been co-opted by the New Zealand Hospital Boards’ Association to assist its executive in planning the working ot the Social Security Act, in-so-far as it relates to hospitals. Mr. Richard Horton Toy, a graduate of the school of architecture at the Auckland University College, has been appointed lecturer and studio instructor in architecture at the school, states a Press Association message from Auckland. Ife was selected from 14 applicants, some ot whom live outside New Zealand. The Commissioner ot Police, Mr. D. J. Cummings, Wellington, who is making a tour of inspection of police districts, stayed in Taihape on Wednesday night, where he was joined by Superintendent J. Lander, who is in charge of the Wanganui police district. The Commissioner left Taihape yesterday for the north. Mr. W. W. Mulholland, Dominion president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, will arrive at mid-day on Monday in Palmerston North, and will be brought to Wanganui by the provincial president, Mr. T. Currie. Arrangements are in train for Mr. Mullholland to visit districts in the province and he will then speak at the rally at Makirikiri on Tuesday evening. During his stay in this district he will be the guest of Mr. W. Peat, ''Hillside,” Wanganui.
