MILITARY CAMP AT WAIOURU

INSPECTED BY GENERAL ARTILLERY PRACTICE HELD An inspection was macle of the military camp at Waiouru yesterday by Major-General J. E. Duigan, Officer Commanding the New Zealand Forces. He was accompanied by Colonel E. Puttick, Officer Commanding the Central Military District, Major H. Parkinson, and Colonel E. Saunders. Wellington and Hawke’s Bay artillery units participated in live shell practice, and visitors from Taihape who were present to see the big guns ! in action, came away from the camp with an excellent impression of the efficiency of the artillerymen. The manoeuvres of the infantry were also most impressive, the smart military bearing and general efficiency of the troops reflecting great credit on the regiments concerned. The units in camp include the Second Composite Battalion Wellington West Coast Regiment, and also the Taranaki Regiment. About 800 men will arrive at the camp during the coming week-end, bringing the total number of men under canvas up to 1000. I Sailors from the New Zealand I Division of the Navy will also be mov- ‘ ing into camp shortly. Live shell • practice for the artillery will be con- | tinned to-day.
