CONFERENCE IN DUNEDIN PUBLIC BUILDINGS QUESTION I Per Press Association. I DUNEDIN, Feb. 16. A decision to approach the Government and local bodies with a view to arranging that their architectural work should be carried out ny registered architects in private practice was made at the annual conference of the New Zealand Institute of Architects when three remits on the subjects, two from Canterbury and one from Auckland, were brought forward.
The three remits were discussed at the same time, being finally embodied in one resolution which was carried as follows: —“That the council take immediate steps to approach the Government and local bodies in regard to architectural work with a view to arranging that such work be carried out by registered architects in private practice and when the circumstances warrant it all major work to be competed for by competition by registered members of the New Zealand Institute of Architects under N.Z.I.A. regulations governing architectural competitions.” The election of councillors resulted: Messrs. S. S. Alleman, L. S. Piper, H. !.. Massey, and P. C. I. Crooks (Auckland); E. E. Gillman and J. H. Edgecombe (South Auckland); E. A. Williams, F. H. Forge, and R. Natusch ‘Hawkes Bay-Gisborne); F. E. Greenish, W. K. Cook, J. I. King and H. C. Morton (Wellington); J. A. J. Hart, P. Watts, G. D. Griffiths and A. H. Manson (Canterbury); H. McDowell, N. Y. A. Wales, and L. D. Coombs ' Gt Ago).
