COMPLETE FAILURE
SOUTHLAND HONEY CROP. [ Per Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, Feb. 15. For the first time in the history of. .he province Southland's honey crop! this year is a complete failure because I of the exceptionally wet and stormy' weather, as a result of which the bees' have been unable to collect suflicienf ! honey tf last them through the win-i ter and spring. It is reported that some of the colonies are already on! I of supplies, and this means that they will have to be fed on sugar through-' out the winter and spring. Because of the failure of the crop apiarists of the province face a big loss and a meeting to-day of the Southland branch of the National Beekeepers’ Association, decided to petition the Government for financial assistance in the purchase of sugar to, keep the bees alive till next season. A sustenance allowance for beekeepers and their families was also sought.
