ACTION BY ENGLISH BANK NEW ZEALAND NOTES Members of the crew of the cruise Achilles, 7030 tons, which reachc Portsmouth recently after a thro, years’ commission in the New Ze tl land Squadron, had an unpleasan surprise when they came ashore an tried to change their New Zealan money into English currency, state an exchange. The Portsmout branch of the bank refused at firs to change the money. This was be cause the New Zealand Governmen. on December 6, prohibited the expoi of currency and the New Zealan Bank in London will not accept an; New Zealand notes issued after tha date. The Portsmouth branch commum cated with its head oflice in Londe and the assistance of the High Com missioner, Mr. W. J. Jordan, wa sought. The result was that arrange ments were made for the Portsmout; bank to change the crew’s money, bu no man was allowed to change mor than £5O worth. New Zealand money is at presen at a discount with sterling and a Ne\ Zealand pound is worth approximate ly 15s 6d in
