WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING HELD REPAIRS TO SCHOOL BUILDINGS At a meeting of the Wanganui Education Board yesterday the order paper, as usual, contained a lengthy list of applications for repairs and improvements to schools and environs. Moumahaki: The chairman reported that he had authorised submission to the department of an offer to purchase the school buildings for removal. Otoko Pa (Parapara Road): The department notified a grant for the erection of new out offices and septic tank at the school and the extension and improvement of the residence. Greatford: A request from the school committee for provision of an extra door for use in fire or earthquake was refused. Castlecliff: The committee’s application for a fire exit door at the side school was approved, the chairman remarking that this was a different and more urgent case than at Greatford. Westmere: It was decided to inform the committee that it is a general policy of the board to replace ironframed desks with tables and chairs and that more of this will be done this year. Increased storage for drinking water is to be provided and also the necessary alterations to darken one room for the showing of films for visual education. Durie Hill: An application from the school committee for assistance towards the cost of installing lavatory accommodation at the new baths was declined. Rangiwahia: The application of the committee to shift the residence from Mangarimu to Rangiwahia for occupation of the secondary assistant was refused. Rangitatau: The application of three parents for the establishment of a grade 1 school was referred to the senior inspector for report. Raurimu: The department is to be asked to constitute a district high school at Raurimu and provide additional accommodation. Taihape D.H.: The request of the headmaster to hire another hall to provide temporary accommodation was approved.
