AWAPUNI TRACKS

\ HORSES FOR WOODVILLE TUESDAY’S GALLOPS. There was increased activity at the Awapuni tracks on Tuesday morning, states the Manawatu Daily Times, and the dust was lifted in clouds from the plough, which was particularly fast. The morning was line and there was no wind. There Was only one gallop on the course proper, that of Newbury Queen (W. J. Broughton) and Miliament (R. B. Ireland), the fillies cutting out half a mile in 52, the last three in 38 3-5, and the former held a very slight advantage at the finish. Both are engaged at Woodville, Millamcnt being nominated for the second day. Oratory (G. Pratt) was the first one to go fast on the plough. Her task was over four, which she ran in 52, and she came home very fast in 38 2-5, working very well. The Bigot’s Good Effort. The Bigot (W. J. Broughton) was next and he was galloped a mile. He ran the first live in 1.6 2-5, and, picked up by the Fox Earth colt <G. R TattersalD at the entrance to the straight, he finished solidly in 1.47, the last six in 1.20 and the last three in 40 2-5. He is in great heart at present and he should strip a fit horse for the Wanganui Cup. Laughing Lass (D. Redstone) sprintI ed five from a standing start in 1.4 3-5, and she was flying at the finish after running the last lour in 50. She is always a generous galloper but she appeared to put even more life into her work on Tuesday morning. Vadanoe (Broughton) and Royal Lassie (Chaplin), under a good hold, were clocked to run five in 1.9, and Great Legion (Broughton) was not permitted to do much better than even time over seven. When this colt j has finished growing he should ful- !• til his early promise. | Ecstatic (Tattersail) was brilliant I over four in 52 2-5, the last three m I better than 39. and the two-year-olds, | Sanciful (J. Pratt) and Katesbridge I (Williamson) were clocked to run the I last two of four in 26 3-5. I Tangled and Riotous were out , doing useful pace work. The former lis being prepared for Riverton at | Easter. Smart Juveniles. I An interesting trial was that beItween La Bru (TattersalD and Chevy- : chase (Ireland). It was over hall a i mile and they went past the peg 1 together. Chevychase, on the inner I held a slight advantage into the straight and she retained it to the I post though neither appeared to be under pressure. Tile time for the full distance was 52, the last three in 3-5. Chevychase is accepted for I ri- ' day and it will not be a surprise if I she takes some part in the finish as i she appears to be improving ail the time. ■ A useful six was recorded by Yed \ Prior (Broughton) and Thrasos (AnI derson). They ran the first three in !39 3-ssec. and they came home in 41sec. to complete in 1.20 3-5. Caution (W. Jenkins) and Defiation (K. Kanakei finished in front of Moradabad (M. Bowden) after four ; in 54sec., the last three in 39 3-ssec., I and Cuisinier (Tattersail) beat Cudidler (Jenkins) by two lengths over ! five, the last four in 54sec. Cuisinier i has been working well since Pahiatua. I Florence Mills (TattersalD began ■quietly and she was not required to : do her best over live in 1.6 3-5, the j last three in 40 3-ssec. She should 'go well at Woodville. ' Brazil (Broughton) sprinted six in '1.20 2-5, after a slow beginning, and !he was going solidly at the finish, the ' last three taking him 39sec. It was ■a really good effort. Beaupartir (Ireland) drew away from Taumau (A. McDonald) at the end of seven run in 1.36, but it was just a working gallop. The colt may give the others something to thills about in the Wanganui Cup. Corroboree and Ohl Bill. As <>n Saturday, Corroboree (TattersalD and Old Bill (Bowden) were : galloped a mile, and without being under pressure they completed in 1.4 f ; 3-5 with Old Bill apparently doing lhe better of the two. The lasl seven took them 1.35 and they maintained an even pace throughout. Cot- ■ roboree is stilt showing slight signs of the injury he received at Trentham, but he does not move badly after he has been warmed up. White Gold galloped brilliantly on Saturday and she repeated the performance on Tuesday morning. Hei task was over seven and she broke 50sec. for the first half-mile. She ran live in 1.4 2-5 and she came home in 28sec. to complete in 1.32 2-5. Her form has been something of a puzzie so far but she may do better in the near future. Among the horses out doing pace work were Conveyer, looking bright and well, Old Surrey, who wanted to gallop, Golden Ridge, who looks none the worse for Hawera, and Bumble and Sudan. WITH THE JOCKEYS RIDING ENGAGEMENTS The following riding engagements have been announced for Woodville: W. J. Broughton: Brazil, Siegmund. Red Cat, Lady Lyric, Newbury Queen. G. R.
