THE WANGANUI SALE GOOD DEMAND FOR SHEEP EXCELLENT CLEARANCE “Although the sale could not be termed a free one, we had a very good clearance,” report the auctioneers, Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd., on the Wanganui sale yesterday. “We yarded*B2so sheep to an excellent attendance of buyers. Prices for top ewes were right up to expectations but aged and failing-mouth ewes were hard of sale. Good forward top lambs sold freely, but all poor and medium sorts sold decidedly in buyers’ favour. Fat sheep maintained last week’s improved rates and fat cattle were a shade better than last week. Vealers also appreciated slightly. Porkers sold at late rates but a small entry of stores sold well above last week’s rates. Details are as follow:

Vealers.--Runners, to £4 ss; good vealers, £2 10s, £3; average, 30s, 455; calves, 9s, 13s. MANGAWEKA EWE FAIR GOOD-QUALITY YARDING The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Company, Limited, report a record yarding of oyer 20.000 ewes at the above sale on Tuesday, their share being 15,300. The attendance was large and the purchasing power was well spread over Manawatu, Lower Rangitikei, Taihape, and Waikato. Prices as a whole were on a much lower level than last year and outside buyers, while keen up to a point, seemed to bo operating on restricted limits. Generally speaking the ewes came forward in excellentcondition and the quality of the yarding was quite up to the usual standard. Mr. W. A. Davidson's ewes attracted considerable attention and his 2-tooth ewes easily topped the market at 36s 6d, the 6-tooth ewes 30s, the 4-year at 27s 9d, and the 5-year 21s 3d. The bulk of the ewes were secured by Marton purchasers. The Russell Estate ewes also came forward in excellent condition and realised 21s, a very attractive line of 209 2-tooth ewes on account Morton Bros, made 31s, and Mr. F. Healey 30s. The Railway Department had a large supply of trucks available and their assistance in this respect was much appreciated. Aged ewes sold from 9s 6d to 10s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report: At our Mangaweka sheep fair held yesterday we yarded a moderate entry of sheep. Comptition was good and a total clearance was effected at values well up to expectations. The annual drafts of m.a. and five-year ewes on account of Messrs. Mclntyre and Co. realised £1 0s lOd and 19s respectively. Two-tooths on account of the same vendors realised £1 6s, 2-th ewes on account Mr. P. A. Barnett, £1 5s to £1 7s 9d. Aged ewes on account various vendors made from 14s to 15s. EWE VALUES AT MATLERE. The ewe fair at Matiere held on Monday by Dalgety and Company, Limited, was well attended, and prices were fully maintained. Two-tooth ewes made 27s to 31s 6d; four-tooth,
255; four and six-tooth 12s to 19s 2d; four year old, 18s to 26s 6d; four and five-year, 12s to 19s; five-year, 14s 3d to 20s; old ewes, 4s 6d to 15s.
