ANNUAL MEETING HELD PROGRAMME ARRANGED (Own Corespondent). TAIHAPE, Feb. 14. The annual meeting of the Taihape St. Patricks Day Sports Club was held on Tuesday evening, when there were present Messrs. J. (chair), D. T. Kelly, F. McSweeney, J. P. Chapman, c. Cherry, R. Kiely, J. Infield, F. Donovan, j. J. Quinn, R. C. Ongiey, C. Gordon, A. J. Mickieson, J. Stead, E. P. Duncan, W. O'Connor, R. Spence, A. Thurston, J. Bridson, L. Siddle, D. Treadwell, A. James, E. Loader, Mrs. C. Gordon, Rev. Father Doolaghty. Several apologies were received. The meeting was one of the best ever held, and this was a happy augury for the forthcoming sports. The resignation of Mr. B. Guthrie as secretary was accepted with regret and Mr. D. T. Kelly was appointed to fill the vacancy. Mr. L. Siddle was elected assistant-secretary. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: President, Rev. Father Doolaghty; executive committee, J. Quirk (chairman), Rev. Father Doolaghty, secretary, assistant-secretary, Mrs. C. Gordon, Messrs. D. J. Treadwell, C. Cherry, V Nicholls, R. Spence, H. Hintz, A. E. Thurston, F. McSweeney, E. Loader. The appointment of officials for the sports was left in the hands of the executive committee. Mr. E. Loader suggested a star turn should be included in the programme. Mr. R. Spence was in favour of a “lap” race being included in the cycling events. He also was of the opinion that the cycling events shoulu start about 2.30 p.m. in order to allow outside competitors time to get to the sports. The following canvassing committee was elected: Messrs. J. Quirk. E. P. Duncan and Rev. Father Doolaghty. The programme for the sports was arranged and it was decided to make a few minor alterations to last year’s events. It was decided to delete the maiden race (100yds.) from the programme. Mr. Spence said there was a chance of getting W. Pullar to run in the half-mile and mile. There was also every probality of a party of runners from Wanganui competing at the sports. The meeting resolved to include a 75yds. ope<n handicap for ladies in the programme and also a relay race for ladies of 440yds. for teams of four. On the motion of Mr. Spence, it was decided to delete the two-mile invitation cycle race held last year and substitute a lap race of five miles. Trophies to the value of £5 will be given for this event. A hunting competition (lady riders only) was included amongst the events and Mr. Thurston donated a trophy valued at £3 3s. The donor was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. It was resolved to invite R. Ulmer '(cyclist) and W. Pullar (long distance runner) to compete at the sports. Pullar is the New Zealand three-quarter-mile record holder, while Ulmer is a British Empire Games representative. Mr. Spence suggested a grand parade of athletes on the day of the sports. The secretary was instructed to engage the local band for the meeting.
