WANGANUI MALE CHOIR

41st ANNUAL MEETING PRODUCTION OF "THE DESERT” The 41st. annual meeting of the Wanganui Male Choir was held last night when the president, Mr. W. F. Hanton, the secretary, Mr. S. Hanton. and the treasurer, Mr. F. Reynolds, were all re-elected. Four silver stars were presented by the president to Messrs. J. H. Paltlidge, H. Armstrong, R. Edwards, and S. Hanton as winners in the quartet competitions held during the last session in 1938. The quartet responded by singing the test piece, "Deep Harmony." Mr. F. Wentworth Slater, conductor, in speaking about the proposed concert to be held in the Opera. House during the first session in 1939, said that the selection of “The Desert” was one that should enthuse both the members and the general public. The work was a very spectacular one and would be a change for the choir in that it would be entirely in costume. (Other officers elected were: Vice president, Mr. S. Kendall; conductor Mr. F. W. Slater; pianiste, Mrs. F \ Cunningham; librarian, Mr. J. Brass; ■k auditor. Mr. A. Haworth; committee W Messrs. F. Christie, E. Grant, W. Healy, A. E. Snelling, R. Edwards and F. Emmett. Votes of thanks were passed to the many members who had done goo service and also to the outgoing committee.
