IMPORT REGULATIONS
COURT TEST REFUSED BUREAU INFORMED BY SOLICITOR-GENERAL [ Per Press Aaaocintion.] AUCKLAND, Feb. 14. The Solicitor-General, Mr. H. H. Cornish, K.C., has advised the Bureau i' s ot Importers through its legal ade. visers that he will not grant consent le to the issue ot an orginiating sumn- mons to test lhe validity of the import control legislation, 1938. The I- reason given for the refusal was that id it. was a question of Government o. policy and that the Solicitor-General e . was not prepared to facilitate such >, action. k The bureau reports that the matter r- is still in the hands of its solicitors. D Following the imposition of the regulations the intention of the bureau a to test their validity through the it Court was announced in a statement ,y early this month. The secretary of the bureau, Mr. Ft. M. Barker, said the case before the ■s Court of Appeal to test the validity of iy the regulations would definitely be :e proceeded with. s- The petition to the Governor■e General to suspend the operation of n the import control regulations until io such time as their validity could be >f tested through the Courts Is being proie needed with, according to the bureau.
