SLIGHT QUAKES
SOUTH ISLAND TREMORS WESTPORT AND CANTERBURY [ Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Feb. 11. The Dominion observatory reported to-day slight earthquakes in the South Island recorded on the seismograph late last night and early this morning. The first was a very small shock recorded i<n Westport and neighbouring districts but was not widely felt. The second at 3.55 a.m. was heavier, its centre being south-west of Milford and slightly out to sea. It is stated, to be an aftershock of the heavy earthquake experienced in the South Island on December 17 and was fell in Ranfurly, Naseby, Balclutha. Timaru, and Jackson’s Bay. Neither earthquake was felt in Wellington. DUNEDIN SHARPLY JOLTED TWO FOLLOWING TREMORS DUNEDIN, Feb. 11. A sharp severe earth tremor jolted Dunedin at 3.32 o’clock this morning, followed by two more of less pronounced intensity. A south-west gale was blowing at the time.
