General Chiang Kai-shek describes the Japanese landing at Hainan Island as the beginning of Japanese dominance of the Pacific. "I do not know how Britain and America can watch unconcernedly this dangerous development because Japanese from Hainan can cut the American routes from Hawaii and th/ British routes from Singapore. The landing has little effect on the present war and even the occupation is of no consequence to China,” he said. FRENCH INSTRUCTIONS TO AMBASSADOR Rec: ved Feb. 12. 7 p.m. PARIS. Feb. 11. The French Ambassador to Tokio has been instructed to seek an explanation of the occupation of Hainan Island.
