French Merchant Ship. The first French merchant ship to visit Auckland for some years, the motor-ship Pierre L.D., arrived from Ghent on Wednesday with a cargo of basic slag. The Pierre L.D., of 5795 tons giwss, was built at Dunkirk in 1935 and is owned by LouisDreyfus and Company, of Paris, a line which has a number of cargo vessels in the trade between Australia and the Continent. Nectarines Turn Bad. Nectarines left ripe on the trees have been turning bad in a number of Hastings residential orchards due to the recent humid conditions. People who have been picking their fruit as it ripens have not experienced much trouble, but others who have left ripe nectarines on the trees have suffered losses, although so far as can be gathered these have not been very great. Nevertheless, the damage which has resulted has m many instances been sufficient to put owners of t/ees on their guard.
