SITUATIONS VACANT. NEW ZEALAND DIVISION OF THE ROYAL NAVY. ENTRY OF STOKERS. SEAMEN BOYS, AND SHORT SERVICE SEAMEN. FIFTEEN STOKERS arc required for entry in May, 1939. Candidates for entry as Stokers should be between the ages of 18 and 22 on sth May, 1939. Applications for entry must reach the Defence Office NOT LATER THAN 10th MARCH, 1939. Twenty-two SEAMEN BOYS are required for entry in May, 1939. Candidates for entry as Seamen Boys should be between the ages of 15 years 3 months and 16 years 3 months on 26th May, 1939. Candidates within one month of these age limits may be considered in exceptional circumstances. Applications for entry must reach the Defence Office NOT LATER THAN 31st MARCH, 1939. Twenty SHORT SERVICE ORDINARY SEAMEN are required for entry in June, 1939. Candidates for entry should be between the ages of 175 and 23 on 16th June, 1939. Service is for six years in the New Zealand Division of the P.oyal Navy, and six years in the Reserve, with an option of transferring to continuous service if recommended. Age limits is to 23 years. Knowledge of cooking and baking is desirable but not essential. ASSISTANT STEWARD OR BOY STEWARD: 2 vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service for Assistant Steward. Age limits 18 to 23 years. 12 years’ continuous service from age 18 for Boy Steward. Age limits 16 to 18 years. Candidates are required to pass a test in reading, writing and simple arithmetic. ENGINE-ROOM ARTIFICER: 2 vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits for candidates applying during present year 192 to 24 years. Candidates must be competent to one of fhe following trades: Fit’ r, Fitter and Turner, Coppersmith, Boilermaker or Enginesmith. They will be required to pass a technics' examination and trade test prior to entry. Those who hold a 2nd. Class Engineer's Board o’ Trade Certificate will be accepted without technical examination. ELECTRICAL ARTIFICERS: 2 vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Aga limits for candidates applying during present year 192 to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient, fitters, or fitters and turners, or instrument makers. They will be required to pass a technical examination and trade test prior to entry.

Candidates must be thoroughly efficient workmen with at least 5 years’ practical experience, as Painter. Will be required to pass a trade test prior to entry. JOINER: 1 vacancy for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limit 19 to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient workmen with at least 5 years' practical experience as Joiner. Will be required to pass a trade test prior to entry. PLUMBER: 1 vacancy for 12 years' continuous servke. Age limit 19 to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient workmen with at least 5 years’ practical experience as Plumber. Will be required to pass a trade test prior to entry. SICK BERTH PROBATIONER: 2 vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits 18 to 22 years. Candidates are required to possess a fair knowledge of Arithmetic (simple money sums; weights and measures; decimals, proportion and percentages). Knowledge of dispensary is desirable but not essential. Details of medical and educational standards, pay, etc., and training courses may be obtained on application in writing to COMMANDING.
