Meteorological Office, Wellington, Sunday, February 12, 3 p.m. General Situation.—Pressure is still high over south-eastern Australia and across the North Tasman Sea to northern New Zealand but a depression has developed over the south Tasman Sea and is moving on to the South Island. Forecast. —Winds: West to north-west predominati" - moderate in the northern half of the North Island, elsewhere moderate to strong and in places reaching gale force. A change to strong southerlies advancing later from the south. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough south of Cape Egmont and in Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate but later rising on the east coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea: Variable winds and slight to moderate seas in the northern portion, moderate to strong northerly winds in the central and southern portions, turning soon to southerlies with rather rough seas. Weather: Mainly fair to fine and mild at first but rain developing in western and far southern di"tr ; "'•• of " ~ ath Island and gradually becoming more widespread. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John's Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 10 hours 10 minutes. Rainfall, a trace. Temperatures: Maximum, 70 deg. Fahr.; minimum, 42deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 7.30 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 5.41 a.m. Phases of the Moon for February:—Full Moon, February 4; Last Quarter, February 10; New Moon, February 19; First Quarter, February 26.
