SECON D BEST PUBLIC MEETING I • The public meeting which was held last evening to ma*-* arrangements I for Physical Fitness Week, which j commences on February 18, was de- ; scribed by the Mayor, Mr. L. B. H. de j cautour, as the second best that has seen held in Taihape in the matter of attendance. “The best meeting we ever had was when the reservoii failed. We intended to hold it in the supper room but there was such a big crowd present that the.main han had to be utilised,’’ added His Worship, amidst laughter. The trouble with sport to-day is that there are too many spectators 'and not enough players. We want ! something more than an exhibition of games as the object of Physical Fitness WeeK is to enocurage those who are not in the habit oi taking an active part in sport, to turn over a new leaf and indulge in active participation, and gain some physical ocnelii, remarked Mr. J. C. Whibley, at a public meeting held in the Council Chambers last evening. MILITARY (AMP AT VVAIOURU Major-General J. E. Duigan, Officer Commanding the New Zealand Defence Forces, visited the military camp at Waiouru yesterday and inspected the First Battalion, Wellington Regiment (City of Wellingtons Own>, and was favourably impressed with the discipline and morale of the troops. The General leaves for Auckland to-night to inspect another camp. Later in the month he will visit camps in the South island.
