AROUND PATEA
SEASIDE IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY CHILDREN’S PADDLING POOL (Own Correspondent.) PATEA, Feb. 10. Mr. H. J. Peacocke, presiding at a meeting of those interested in the construction of a paddling and swimming pool for children this week stated that it was hoped to construct a paddling pool for children about three years old, which would be from six to nine inches deep, and 30 by 20 feet in length. The swimming pool would be for older children and would be just deep enough for them to learn to swim, 30 by 60 feet. The proposal had the advantage that the dressing rooms were already provided. There would be a wall between the two pools to prevent the small children going into the swimming pool. The boxing for the concrete work would cost nothing, as he would be glad to provide it. As the funds of the society would not permit that body carrying out the work, outside assistance would have to be sought. It was moved that the proposal be adopted and that it be a recommendation to the local centenary committee that the pools be the local centenary memorial. Application is to be made to the Harbour Board for permission to proceed with the work and Mr. Peacocke was authorised to proceed with the work of constructing the pool, his generous offer to provide the boxing being accepted with thanks. Mr. T. F. Hemingway was appointed treasurer, to receive subscriptions. Those present formed themselves into a committee for the purpose of finding ways and means for raising funds on behalf of the society. The proposal was amended to include a pool for bathers to wash the sand from their feet prior to dressing. Messrs. Austin, Currie. Mairs and Hemingway and the chairman were appointed an executive.
