Meteorological Office, Wellington, Thursday, February 9, 3 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone covers northern New Zealand and a very slight disturbance lies across the South Island. Forecast.—Winds: Sea breezes along parts of the east coast but otherwise between north-west and south-west predominating. Force mainly light to moderate but strong at times in some exposed positions. Seas (New Zealand waters): Moderate to rather rough about Cook Strait and South Taranaki Bight, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Rather variable winds but light to fresh northwesterlies predominating. Seas slight to moderate. Weather: Some scattered rains probable on the west coast of the South Island with morning fogs and possibly drizzle on the east coast, otherwise fair to tine. Temperatures rising. The New Zealand Friends' School, St. John's Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 6 hours 10 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Temperature: Maximum, 76deg. Fahr.; minimum, 54 deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 7.34 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 5.37 a.m.
