SHARP RISE IN BEEF VALUES. [ Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Feb. 8. A smaller yarding and consequent keener competition resulted in a sharp rise in values for ox beef at the Westfield stock sales, prime medium and light weights taking part in the advance which equalled Is per 1001 b. Cow beef was quoted unchanged. Extra choice ox beef made 38s per 1001 b., choice and prime, 33s to 375; choice and prime cow and heifer 28s to 335, boner and rough, 19s to 275; extra heavy prime steers, £l4 10s to £l5 2s 6d, heavy, £l3 10s to £l4 10s, medium, £l2 10s to £l3 ss, light, £ll 10s to £l2 ss, unfinished, £7 10s to £lO 15s; extra heavy prime cows and heifers, £9 to £lO 12s 6d, heavy, £7 to £9, medium, £6 to £6 10s, light, £4 to £6.

There was a steady demand for an average entry of sheep quotations being for the most part unchanged, although a slight fall occurred in some cases. Extra heavy prime wethers made 22s 6d to 23s 6cl, heavy, 21s to 235, medium, 18s 6d to 21s 9d, light. 15s to 18s 9d. Values were fully firm for a small average entry of pigs competition being steady throughout the sale. Baconers averaged 6id to -6£d per lb. and porkers 6id to 7d. MANGAWEKA SALE The N.Z. Farmers’ Distributing Co.. Ltd., report an entry of 1100 lambs at the above sale on Thursday to a medium attendance of buyers. The yarding was comprised principally of medium lambs with a fair sprinkling of tail-end sorts. Prices were on a par with recent sales as follows: Good medium lambs, Ils to 13s 7d; fair dotto, 7s lOd to 10s 2d; small, 3s 5d to 6s 6d; small ewe lambs, 8s 2d to 9s 6d; Romney rams, 2gns. TAIHAPE SALE The New Zealand Farmers’ Distributing Co., Ltd., report a yarding of 1500 lambs at the above sale on Wednesday to a good attendance of buyers. Good lambs were in demand and sold readily J at prices slightly firmer than on the previous sale at this fixture. Quotes were as follow: Best wether lambs, 15s 7d to 16s 3d; good ditto,

to 14s Id; medium ditto, 8s Id to 10s 2d; small, 3s 6d; medium ewe lambs, to 16s 4d; fair ditto. 13s 9d; small, 9s 7d; two-shear S.D. rams, £4 4s; aged rams, £1 Is; 20-month steers, to £6.
