Casey, addresing members of the Hobart Chamber of Commerce, ojicl that because of heavy expenditure on defence and national insurance the Government would be compellcu to imposed new' taxation.
SOUTHERN RHODESIA COMPULSORY REGISTRATION A PRECAUTIONAY MEASURE SALISBURY, Feb. 8. The Southern Rhodesian Govern ment, as a precautionary measure, ii making national registration compulsory, although it is believed that the immediate man-power in an emergency can be obtained voluntarily.

The Colonial Minister, in a memorandum to the Second Chamber, said the cession of Dutch East: Indies territory was not even a subject foi discussion. It was believed the Indies must rely increasingly on theii 1 own forces for eventual defence.
