Not guilty was the verdict of the jury at the retrial in the Palmerston North Supreme Court on Tuesday of Rangi Tapine, a Maori, on a charge of stealing, at Onepuhi on September 1 last, a steer, valued at £8 10s, the property of Allan Fladfieid Marshall. Accused was before the Court last week, when the jury was unable to agree on a verdict. Sir Hubert Ostler was on the Bench, while Mr. H. R. Cooper conducted the case for the Crown and Mr. G. I. On the verdict being announced, accused was discharged.
