MARTON’S PROGRAMME (Own Correspondent). MARTON, Feb. 8. The Marton Borough Council received Ministerial authority setting up a district committee under the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act. 1937, for Marton. The personnel oi the proposed committee was for .aided to the Minister for Internal Affairs, and approved of as follows:- Mr. F Purnell (Mayor), and Councillors W. J. Mogride and K. A. Williams, representing the Borough Council, the Swimming Club and Union; Mt. H. H. Richard-. 11. Count; Council; Mesrs. M. N. Atkinson (g >ll and cricket), J. D. Gorrie (bov. is> W. Jackson (boxing and wrestling), C. C. McDonald (athletics), and A. W. Tucker (sch Is) and Mrs. M. Thompson (tennis). Details of the Physical Fitness Week, which it is proposed should be held throughout the Dominion during the week irora February 18 to February 25, both days inclusive, have been received from the department. It was hoped that the district committee set up under the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act, ith th Mayors and chairmen of other local bodies as chairmen would unite the whole community, wrote Mr. J. Confident of the solid backing of ail the organi -filion.'. a tentative programme, drawn up with the idea of giving a lull week activity to the largest communities was submitted for consideraion.
