DUNEDIN WOOL SALE

FINE CROSSBRED FIRM ON DECEMBER RATES PRICES SLIGHTLY EASIER Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN. Feb. 8. The second Dunedin wool sale was held to-day, when catalogues totalling 27,284 bales were offered. Apart from a few super lines, which were eagerly competed for, the selection was not up to the usual Dunedin second sale standard owing largely to the adverse weather conditions and shortage of feed during the winter and early spring. A larger proportion of highcountry wools was offered than usual, which opened Ip a little thinner a.nd showed a tendency to be off colour with a dry yolk. North Otago wools appeared to be in better condition than is usually the rase. Competition was fairly well spread but the Continental section took a big percentage of the catalogue both in fine fleece suitable for their requirements and in skirtings of all descriptions. Bradford bought moderately and support was also given by Germany. Japan and the United States of America. As usual, the local mills were well in the market for better-class wools, their main at-

tention being fo.ussect on Merino quarterbreds and fine pieces. They did not pay the same attention to super-fine halforeds as at the Christchurch sale. As compared with the previous Dunedin sale cn December 20 superstyle Merinos can be quoted definitely dearer but avrage to inferior fine wools and also all fine crossbreds can be quoted fully firm on December rates. Pieces of all descriptions, however. can be quoted slightly easier, except three-quarterbred and crossbred crutchings. Fine crutchir.gs were dull of sale and sold at low rates. Growers met the market well and i good clearance was effected at auction of fully 95 per cent, with the □rospect of further sales being made privately. Top price realised at the sale was 18d for three bales of super Merino branded Puketoi and grown by Mrs. Watson Sheenan. of Pukefr.i Station.
