EARLY BIRD INQUIRY
VICTORIA PARK RUNNING STEWARDS TAKE NO ACTION Following the running of the ii:s division of the Flying Handicap a Victoria Park, Sydney, on January 25 the stipendiary stewards of the Aus tralian Jockey Club opened an in quiry into the running of Early B ; :.i owned by Mr. W. Devon and tralnc. by J. T. Jamieson. The inquiry wa: adjourned until January 27 to enabb Mr. Devon to be present and whei resumed the explanation tenders.was accepted and no action taken. Early Bird started at short oeds i: tlie race and, after being with ths leaders to the straight entrance, 11:, ished fifth. Jamieson said he did noi support the filly because of her decisive defeat by Lord Bine in a tract gallop the previous day. At the adjourned inquiry Jamieson and L Bartie, rider, called seven witnesses The owner of Early Bird, Mr. VV Devon, who had just arrived iron New Zealand in the morning, was als; present. The witnesses were the trainers W Kelso, B. R. Payton and T. Murray, the veterinary surgeon, Mr. V. E. H Davis; and the riders in Early Bird s race, E. McMenamin, H. McFarlaln and G. Cook.
