THE AUTUMN MEETING PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY The autumn meeting of the Dun edin Jockey Club, to be held at th. Wingatui course to-day and Satin day, ranks as one of the most im portant staged by tne elub during th. season. Features of the fixture wii i be the appearance of Royal Chief n . the Dunedin Cup to-day and in th. James Hazlett Memorial Cup on Sat urday, and the clash of South Islam two-year-olds in the Champagm Stakes to-day. Betting at the meet ing is on the win-and-place system. Royal Chief, an outstanding pet former in his campaign in Australis last spring, was the best of the sea son last year. He must be accorucc a great chance in the Dunedin Cui to-day. Wild Chase, winner of til: Manawatu Cup this season, will appreciate the fact that the sting will be out of the ground owing to recenl rains. Queen of Song, a Wellington Cup winner and also winner at Hiecarton on Saturday, is another Cu; candidate certain to be in favour The remainder of the ten candidate: appear to be outclassed by the trie mentioned. Master Hotspur, Gold Salute, Mocrsotis and Aranui appear to be the best of the Champagne Stakes field.
