PLAZA THEATRE

"CONVICT 99” AND “BATTLE OF BROADWAY” The inimitable Will Hay gets mixed up with a gang of “gaol-birds” in his latest film, “Convict 99, which is screening at the Plaza Theatre. In “Convict 99” Will Hay is a doctor who has applied for a position at a prison and is welcomed as the new governor. After getting mixed up with various intrigues he is thrown into prison. When he comes out he begins to reform the entire policy of the prison and starts by fitting every cell up as “exclusive apartments.” In “Battle of Broadway,” based on the American Legion’s “unconventional convention” in New York, the merry military onslaught is provided by the Army, Navy and Marines. Victor (Sez you) McLaglen and Brian (One punch) Donlevy arrive on the Gay White Way in the Legion vanguard—to see what makes the cosy little village on the Hudson River so popular. These battle-scarred veterans know all the manoeuvres—and when they lay siege to beautiful Louise Hovick, “Battle of Broadway,” like the Battle of the Marne, becomes nothing more than a whole collection of fights conveniently filed under one heading. The cast, of the film includes Raymond Walburn, Lynn Bari, Jane Darwell and Robert Kcllard. “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” The notable technicolour production “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” will be presented at the Plaza Theatre next Monday. This is Walt Disney’s first full-length production and it. comes as a brilliant climax after his work in producing “Silly Symphonies” and “Mickey Mouse” cartoons, which have for some years delighted theatre audiences. The story has been adhered to with but few alterations, and the characters have been instilled with all those touches so definitely associated with Disney’s creations. Patrons are urged to take advantage of the 4.30 p.m. sessions.
