City Council Rates.

"The rates are coming in well and the position compares even more lavourably than last year, which was better than the previous year,” commented the Mayor, Mr. W. J. Rogers at last night’s meeting of the Wanganui City Council.

Secondary Schools Open. The Wanganui Collegiate School. St. George's School, and Sacred Heart Convent reopen alter the summei vacation to-day. The Wanganui Technical College resumed yesterday with a roll number of 643, compared with 619 last year. Of this total 446 are boys and 177 girls. There are 72 boarders at the hostel. The Wanganui Girls’ College also opened yesterday.
