Mr. W. Beard, managing director of Messrs. William Beard Pty., Ltd., arrived at Wellington on Monday by the Awatea from Sydney.
Mr. F. Goldberg, governing director ol the Goldberg Advertising Agency Ltd., arrived at Auckland on Monday by the Mariposa from Australia.
Mr. J. B. Cotterill, M.P. for Wanganui, leaves for Wellington this morning to attend the caucus of the Parliamentary Labour Party.
Mr. G. B. Wimble, managing director of F. T. Wimble and Co., arrived at Wellington by the Awatea from Sydney on a business visit to New 2’ealand.
Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Laidlaw and members of their family left Auckland by the Mariposa cn Monday for San Francisco, thus commencing a round-the-world tour.
S> Theophilus and Lady Metcalfe, of Winkworth, Surrey, who have been visiting New Zealand since last June, arrived at Auckland from Rotorua on Saturday.
Mr. W. E. Broderick, chairman of the Wanganui Hospital Board, is visiting New Plymouth for the conference of the Hospital Board’s Association, which began yesterday.
Captain T. J. Watts, advisory supervisor and secretary to the United Fire Brigades’ Association, is visiting Wanganui to-day to discuss final arrangements for the fire brigades' demonstration early next month.
Mr. H. de B. Barry, manager of the university branch of the Commercial Banking Company, Sydney, arrived at Wellington with his wife on Monday by the Awatea from Sydney. Mr. and Mrs. Barry are on a holiday visit to the North Island.
Cr. J. J. Scott was appointed last night as the representative of the Wanganui City Council at the annual New Zealand Libraries’ Conference at Palmerston North next week. The city librarian, Miss A. M. Blackett, will also attend the conference.
Mr. H. J. S. Rickard, president of the Pharmacy Board of New Zealand and also of the Pharmaceutical Association of Australia and New Zealand, returned to Wellington by the Awatea from Sydney. He attended the Science Congress in Canberra.
Captain F. Taylor has been appointed harbourmaster for Wanganui in succession to Captain F. E. Naylor, who is retiring in April. Captain Taylor has been with the Wanganui Harbour Board for the past nine years and is senior pilot and deputyharbourmaster.
Mr. T. E. Johnson, the senior aircraft inspector of the Civil Aviation Board, Melbourne, arrived in New Zealand by the Aorangi on Monday (February 6) from Vancouver on his way to Australia. Mr. Johnson will spend a week in New Zealand, during which he hopes to spend a few days with his sister, Mrs. W. Simson, Nukumaru, before leaving by the Awatea on February 14 for Australia. Last August he flew from Melbourne to Southampton. He has been studying the construction, operation and maintenance of the Empire “C” class flying boats and has also visited the various aircraft factories and operating companies. From England Mr. Johnson went to Canada and the U.S.A., where he spent some time studying aircraft and engine construction and the operation and administration of air lines.
